Great For What It Is. July 15, 2010 SonnyRey (Lanham, MD) All considered, this is the best product among its competitors, IMHO. The attributes for me are it does not require tools, glue, magnets, weights, or a suction cup. Am a bit concerned about possible stress on the vent blades but so far so good. It is a bit tricky to install and therefore I am hesitant to put it out of sight for security reasons when not in use.
Too bad the hot-shot, stove-pipe thinking engineers of today don't think of building in brackets or at least a drillable plate (and behind-the-dash conduit) in the dash board for owners' - to install devices like this. It would be easy for them to integrated a cover for the plate. (Yeah, my old school 71 years shows.)
Thinking like a thief might, I would suspect an expensive device is in the car and not well hidden if I saw one of these on the dash of a remotely parked car. The useless car alarms of today give a false sense of security and a thief would be long gone before he/she could be caught.
Works great except in big vehicles (trucks, etc.) July 15, 2010 HomeTHJunkie Bought this to use in both an Altima and Ford Expedition. Works great in the Altima, stays secure and holds the gps fine. In the Ford, the vents are too deep so the unit cannot grab the back side of the vent for a secure hold. It still wedges in there nicely and works but you can pull the holder out of the vent where it latches onto the back of the vent in the Altima.
That is the only drawback to this so I imagine it might be a problem on large vehicles with big, deep vents (pickups, large SUV's, etc.). Otherwise, in probably any car or small SUV, this works as good or better than others I've tried. Plus I don't have to take it down, just unhook the GPS.
Good Mount for the Price July 7, 2010 JDS (FL) Reasonably good mount. My price was $6.50 including shipping. Purchased assuming it would not last long as the price would tend to indicate, but has been quite affective. In general vent mounts put the device up high where it can be seen. The bad side to that is that your device may also be visible to thieves.
PROs
Inexpensive
Supportive and and secure once installed.
Fairly easy to install, but could be easier.
Clamps effective as apposed to jamb mounts on example akron mount Arkon GN047 Removable Vent Mount for Nuvi & StreetPilot which I would also not trust.
Positive lock as as apposed to window suction mount which eventually fail unless you continuously reapply them.
Little or no damage to vents or console as apposed to stick on or permanent mounts.
CONs
Frail construction would be easy to damage
Bottom base leg is in-affective, should have intermittent position lock.
Hard to transport without damaging, can't just throw it into a bag when traveling.
Hard to remove quickly or with one hand.
IG-AO3: i.Trek Vent Mount for Garmin Nuvi 265T June 25, 2010 yocliffy Overall, this Vent Mount for my Garmin Nuvi 265T works well if it is mounted correctly. Because this unit is made of plastic, and it is horizontally mounted from the vent, it can be broken if too much downward force is applied to the bracket. Positive feature...the spring loaded jaws securely holds this unit onto to the vent vs. clips.
Perfect! June 4, 2010 K. Tan 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I've owned this mount for half a year to hold my 765T, and it's perfect. Hold securely. Easily removeable. Places the GPS within useable distance, while not being in your face. It's great, especially in California where suction cups mounts are illegal. Highly recommended! Fits a Honda del Sol just fine. Highly recommended product.
